01
Do I still need to call 811 if I hire ETXMS?
Yes — 811 (Lone Star 811 in Texas) is required by law and free for the public utilities they cover. We're the second call. Public locators only mark utilities up to the meter or property line. Anything past that — service feeds to outbuildings, pool circuits, irrigation, septic, irrigation laterals, private water wells — is the property owner's responsibility, and that's what we locate.02
How accurate are your locates and scans?
On metallic and traceable utilities, our electromagnetic locates are typically accurate to within ±10% of depth (industry NULCA standard). Concrete scans resolve targets down to about 18 inches with sub-inch lateral accuracy. Bathymetric depths are accurate to roughly 0.1 ft in calm water. Every job is documented with photos and reference measurements so the marks are reproducible.03
What's your service area?
We're based in Tyler, TX and routinely cover Smith, Gregg, Harrison, Cherokee, Rusk, Henderson, Anderson, Wood, Upshur, Marion, Cass, Bowie, Nacogdoches, and Angelina counties. We mobilize statewide for large or repeat work — mileage outside the 50-mile core area is billed at the IRS standard rate.04
Can you scan post-tension slabs?
Yes. We use 1.6 GHz GPR to map post-tension cables and rebar before any anchor or core is set. On request we provide a written clearance letter with photo documentation — your insurer or GC will typically require this before you cut.05
How do I get a quote?
Email quote@etxms.com with the job address, scope, and any drawings or aerials you have. For most residential and small commercial work we can quote within the same business day. Time-critical or emergency jobs — call us directly.06
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry general liability with errors & omissions coverage specific to utility locating, and aviation liability for drone operations. Certificates of insurance are available on request — name your project as additional insured if your contract requires it.07
Can you tie underground locates to a topo or aerial map?
That's the point of bringing locating and geospatial services under one roof. We can deliver utility marks as GPS-tagged points (KMZ, SHP, or DWG) registered to the same coordinate system as your topographic survey or orthomosaic — so what's above and what's below line up in the same drawing.08
Do you handle bathymetric surveys for private ponds?
Yes — we work with HOAs, ranch owners, golf courses, and stormwater facility operators. A typical 5-acre pond takes a half-day on the water and produces a contour map, volume calculation, and sediment-thickness layer. We'll quote a dredge cubic yardage if that's the goal.
